Entertainment Tuesday #7

I have two songs for you ET today. The first song is Holding Out For a Hero by Ella Mae Bowen and I first heard it when the remake of Footloose came out a few years ago. I remember I would play it constantly when I would go for walks or bike rides in the middle of the night, thinking of the one I loved at the time. It's such a beautiful song, both lyrically and melodically. I remembered it a few days ago and I haven't stopped playing it since. I love this song so much and honestly, it brings back so many memories, it can bring me close to tears and I love songs like that. I love songs that can evoke so much emotion in a person. Check it out believe and feel the feels. <3

The second song I have for you is the newest song, Falling Apart by a wonderful YouTube musician, Trisha Writes Music. Her lyrics are so honest and I think it is extremely brave to put your heart and soul into a song and then put it out there to help people. She is an amazing girl, I have spoken to her several times and I know that she means every word in her songs. Falling Apart made me cry because it's so real and it's a song of hope, a reminder that things do get better. I love Trisha and her music and I can't wait to see how she continues to grow as a person and musician. <3

Entertainment Tuesday #4

American Candy

American Candy is The Maine's fifth studio album and I can honestly say, it's my favorite album they've ever released! I've been a huge fan of The Maine for about eight years now; I used to go to every Southern California show they would play and I even street teamed for their record label at the time, Fearless Records. Street teaming gave me a lot of cool opportunities to hang out with the band even more than I already was; a lot of backstage access, all very exciting! As I got older and busier, though, I stopped seeing them play, but I never stopped listening to them. All of their albums are incredible, but American Candy has become a part of me.

American Candy is your classic alternative/pop-punk/indie record with some of my favorite tracks being Am I Pretty?, (Un)lost, and American Candy. In all honesty, the whole album is so well written and the music behind the lyrics is so perfect for just driving around with friends on a beautiful day. There's a song called 24 Floors, a song John O'Callaghan (lead vocals) wrote about his deep depression that he went through when he was in his early twenties. It's such a darkly honest song about feeling like things will never get better, but the band pushes the message that things do get better and just to hold on to that a little bit longer.

The actual track, American Candy, is one of my absolute favorites because I relate to it so much! The candy they sing of could be anything from media, material things, to drugs and the chorus "They've got American candy/For the American kids/And even if you wanted to you couldn't stop/It's just so sweet/ But this American candy/It'll rot your teeth" and lines like "Try to think back to/Back to a time when/You loved what you loved/Because you loved it are so incredibly powerful. Give the song a listen and tell me what you think because it can be interpreted in so many ways, but either way you interpret it, there's a real depth and truth to the words.

I almost forgot how incredible the album is until I was driving around town with Dalton yesterday and we were just cruisin' along, windows down, breeze in the air, belting out the words to each song. The Maine as a whole have saved my life and got me through more difficult times than they will every understand and that is why they and American Candy are this week's Entertainment Tuesday. :) I'll leave you with the first single they released off the album, English Girls. Enjoy! xx

Entertainment Tuesday #1

Hello Internet, as you can see from the title of this post, I'm starting a series on my blog called Entertainment Tuesdays where I'll be talking everything from books to music to what TV show I'm currently binge watching on Netflix. From here on out, expect your blog feed to have an ET post every Tuesday night! This is the first series I've ever done on my blog so it will most likely go through changes along the way until I feel it's absolutely right so please do stay along for the ride.

The most recent entertainment tidbit to tickle my fancy is Pillow Talk by ZAYN aka Zayn Malik, former One Direction member. I was quite apprehensive upon first listening to the song seeing as I am quite the 1D supporter and there seems to have been some ill will between he and a few of the other boys shortly after the split from the band, BUT I got over it quickly. I'm still a bit upset with Mr. Malik (jokes here folks, I don't actually know the man), but I cannot deny that I am absolutely obsessed with this song! It's an R&B style sexy, love song, as I expected it would be, sounding very similar to the likes of R&B artist Miguel. The music is drum beat driven with Zayn hitting his infamous high notes every five seconds in the chorus, which at first I found a bit much, but now I find myself belting out the lyrics along with him. I particularly enjoy the lyrics I love to hold you close/Tonight and always/I love to wake up next to you and It's our paradise and it's our war zone. I'm not going to get into the depth of the meaning of the song, although one would suspect its about making love, but that's besides the point. This is a damn catchy song and his vocals are impeccable as usual. Bravo Zayn.

I mentioned Miguel above and ironically he's the artist of the next song that has been on repeat on my Spotify. I came across the remix of his song Simple Things featuring Chris Brown and Future and once again, Miguel has stolen my heart with his lyrics and beautiful voice. I've been a fan of Miguel's since his last album which featured hits such as Adorn and Do You? and I still haven't listened to his latest album, but if this song is any representation of that, I'm sure I'll love it. Chris and Miguel's voices blend together as smooth as butter, literally. I didn't think Miguel's songs could get any better, but put Chris Brown on 'em and you've got a monster collaboration. I could do without Future's verse on the song, but I'll look past it. This song is so beautiful, being about wanting the simple things with a lover; I just want someone to smoke with me babe/Lay with me baby/Laugh with me baby/I just want the simple things. It's what my sister would call "baby making music". 😋 Between Pillow Talk and Simple Things, I'm really wishing I had a significant other! Ha! In all seriousness, two very good songs, in my opinion.

I was planning on talking about what shows I've been binging on lately, but I'd rather not overwhelm you and plus, I'm sure I'll still be watching them next Tuesday! I do hope you've enjoyed this little segment and I also hope you're looking forward to more Entertainment Tuesdays to come. All the best!

What has been entertaining you these days? xx

Bright Skies Ahead

I've been thinking a lot about my future lately and what kind of career I'd like to start pursuing. I turn 23 next month and some of you may be thinking a career path is something I should have already started thinking about by now, but it's always just been so overwhelming. I've bobbed around from wanting to do this and then that since I was a wee little child, but since I was around 17, I've been distracted by different aspects of life. However, as time's gone on and I'm finally beginning to get to know myself again, I'm really starting to focus on real goals for myself!

Since my late teenage years, I found myself starting to settle; I told myself "Oh I won't be able to achieve anything I'd actually like to do for a career, I'll just work in a 9-5 office job that'll pay my bills." Not the most positive way of thinking, is it? LOL The past few months, though, I've began to see a brighter future for myself, one where I give my dreams a real go! I have a few dream careers (based on the little amount I DO know about each one) in mind that I really want to shoot for over the next ten years and I thought I'd share them with you!

1. A & R Representative

An A&R rep is someone who scouts new talent for a record label, in other words, they'll go around seeing different artists live or hearing demos or mixtapes and if they like what they hear, they can work towards getting the talent to sign with the record label they work for. I've been interested in the music industry since I was about fifteen. I started street teaming for the record label, Fearless Records, at that age and that basically consists of promoting their bands in various different ways and in exchange you'll get a ticket to a show or in most cases, for my friend and I anyway, guest listed backstage. :) Before I even started running street, I had been going to shows almost every weekend so I started to really create relationships with different people; people in bands, record label representatives, tour managers, roadies and I really got to see different aspects of what that sort of life entails.

I don't exactly remember how I first heard about A&R, but I know I've had an interest in the position since around my show-going days. The idea of finding new talent and playing a major role in helping them share their music with the world is just so appealing to me. When I first started going to shows, being in the front of the crowd singing along to every word was my favorite thing and it still very much is, but after my first time standing side-stage at a show, something changed. I got to see the concert from a whole other perspective. I got to see the crowd and the look of love and true joy on the face of every person in the room and that has become something that really fills me up with happiness and a love for the art of music. I think it would be incredible to be able to help give people that gift of music and help the musician/musicians to achieve their dreams!

Here are just a few of my favorite photos with some of my favorite people from my show days! :)

2. Author

I've loved writing for as long as I can remember and as I got older, I realized it was something I'm actually quite good at. English was always the class that I excelled in the most in school and it was a subject I actually enjoyed. I've always kept journals and recently, I've been getting back into it again, along with this blog, however what I truly, truly enjoy is fictional writing. In my teen years, I was writing a book about a girl and her friends and the trials and tribulations of growing up and since then, I think I've tried to continue that book in some way or another. Every time I try to write something new, the characters start to remind me of that teenage girl and her friends...unfinished business and all that. I'd like to pick up on that book again and do some revising which I'm sure is greatly needed!

To this day, my fictional stories have all consisted of the young adult genre type writing. I've been told that my voice is similar to that of Jason Myers (Exit Here) and Michael Northrop (Gentelmen) which is possibly one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive since those are two of my favorite writers of all time. I love that writing is so cathartic and I can say anything I've ever wanted to say through a character. Also, the idea of being able to help someone with something their struggling with or just make them smile through something I've written would be an absolute dream come true. Writing has taken a backseat these past few years and I'd really like to see that change so that I can give being an author a proper go!

3. Event Coordinator

This is a job that I know far less about, but regardless, it is something I'd really like to look into. I first got a glimpse of being an event coordinator from would you believe it? The Hills. Yes, the guilty pleasure of a "reality show" that starred the ever so beautiful and talented Lauren Conrad. Do any of you remember her friend on the show and in real life, Heidi Montag? Well, in Season 1 of the show we saw Heidi working for a company called Bolthouse and they planned and coordinated events for different companies and it just looked so exciting! The reason I started to consider it as a job for myself is because I started to realize that putting together parties and events for friends was something I truly enjoyed. I loved picking out the venue, decor, food, music, everything that would go into an event on a larger scale and I'd quite like to do a bit research and see if it's a possibility for me. The lifestyle of socializing and also having a desk job that also greatly involves working with others toward one final goal is very appealing!

These are the three career paths that have always stayed with me in the back of my mind and I think it's time I really start to focus on them! I hope this has inspired you to give your dreams a chance! Leave your dream jobs in the comments below if you'd like! xx

Late Night Chat

Hello, hello, hello! Here I am on our second Sunday night post (which is technically Monday morning since it is currently 1 am, but let's just ignore that detail :P) and honestly, I'm at a loss for words. I haven't done much at all since I last spoke to all of you; I mainly just stayed home. Ooo! I did go to me friend, Kyle's, rap show this past Wednesday! Kyle is my friend who was on leave from the army last year that some of you may remember me mentioning, but he was back again and back at his rap game so I went to see him. He was awesome and even better than last time, I must say! If you'd like to check out his music, check him out on his Soundcloud page! It was a fun little night, Dalton was there and a few people from back in my high school days and I also made some new friends that night! Now, whether or not said friends are going to be good influences on me is yet to be decided, but the point is I made new friends! Lol I've become such a homebody/anti-social hermit ever since I got clean last year that being in a big crowd around people that I don't know at all really gets my anxiety going. The night went well, though, all things considered. Also, Dalton came and hung out for a few days which was really nice. A little thing happened involving him that upset me the night of Kyle's show, so it was good to see him and remind myself why I love him so much...only joking, I always love him no matter what happens! We did have a lot of fun together, I must say, and we actually FINALLY filmed a proper video together and it will be going up on my channel this Wednesday! Please, please go check out my channel, I think this week's vid will make you smile! :)

Like I said, I mainly stayed home and this is because I only worked ONE DAY last week. ONE DAY! I need more hours than that! :( Ugh, so frustrating. I'm actually going to be applying for a second job tomorrow and doing many other things. A lot of life changes ahead this year. Some things will take longer than others, but I'm pretty dang positive that by this time next year, my life will have gone through some big changes. I will be happy to share those changes with all of you as they come and I hope you all have a beautiful week!

Here's a random selfie from when I went to see me friend last weekend! XD
